Admittedly, some on the right have erected their own golden calf in Trump, honoring not just his policies but his persona as a kind of deliverer. The difference is that the Left’s idolatry is more tightly bound to secular salvation narratives, while the Right’s still points, however imperfectly, toward a higher God.
